Introduction

Date: Tuesday, January 21, 2020
Time: 10:00am – 11:00am PST
Duration: 1 Hour

In today’s digital age, artists are challenged with the uncanny valley—the emotional distance or discomfort that’s felt when a human depiction doesn’t look entirely real. This can prevent people from connecting to the digital human in the way artists intend, but there are solutions today that can bridge the emotional gap.

Join character artist Ian Spriggs as he draws from his years of experience in digital entertainment to share how the masters were able to connect their work with the viewer and how these same methods can be used on our CG humans. Ian will explore what makes us human and what defines our identity. Throughout his talk, he’ll share the techniques and tools he employs to achieve his lifelike photorealistic digital portraits.

By joining this webinar, you will:
  • Explore the stories behind Ian’s subjects and see portraiture in a new light
  • Get insights on the uncanny valley and learn techniques on how to tackle it
  • Understand Ian’s digital portraiture process using Autodesk Maya, Chaos Group V-Ray, and NVIDIA RTX™ GPUs
  • Get your questions answered in a live Q&A session
